The Cowboys’ big one: Canyon to face Valencia for title

Entering Tuesday, three teams were tied atop the Foothill League girls soccer standings. Thanks to Canyon forward Elvia Contreras' goal in the 53rd minute at Harry Welch Stadium, Saugus has been eliminated from title contention. After a brief skirmish in front of the net, the Centurions defense attempted to clear the ball, but Contreras was in the right place at the right time to volley it home. There was nothing Saugus goalkeeper Bianca Lorenz could ...

League title picture blurs

Call it a logjam. Tied for first place in the Foothill League, Saugus and Valencia girls soccer ended their game knotted at 0-0 Friday night at Dr. Paul A. Priesz Stadium. Coupled with Canyon's 4-0 win over West Ranch earlier in the afternoon, there is now a three-way tie atop the league standings, while Hart nips at everyone's heels. "It is unfortunate because we feel like we played really hard today," said Saugus head coach ...

Getting to the Point

Grant, Lee, MacArthur, Eisenhower, Patton and Molacek. It's a stretch right now, but Saugus High soccer player Jamie Molacek could join that group of United States Military Academy alumni. Only a junior, Molacek has verbally committed to West Point. Back in April at the National Cup in Lancaster, Molacek caught the eye of Army head girls soccer coach Stefanie Golan, who will be in her first year at the helm next season. Molacek remembers her ...
