GV boys hoops close to the top

Welcome to "Around the Divisions." Every Tuesday, you will become educated about the competition outside the Foothill League. We'll give you a breakdown of the top teams, based off of CIF-Southern Section polls, competing in the same divisions as the Foothill League teams. So when it comes to playoff time, you will know who to look out for. We debut this week with a look at boys basketball. ‘Cats moving on, up

The West Ranch girls basketball team pulled off the shock of the Winter Foothill League sports season by defeating Valencia Tuesday night 64-57.

It was shocking because the Wildcats, in four seasons, have never beaten a Foothill foe except for Golden Valley.

Hart girls hoops team forfeits wins

The Hart High girls basketball team is the second Santa Clarita Valley prep sports program in as many days forced to forfeit all of its wins and dismiss a player because of falsification of residency.

Stan Delus was relieved of his duties as Canyon High girls basketball head coach Wednesday night, and the Cowboys had to forfeit all 11 wins for this season, because residency records for transfer players Vanessa Aguilar and Alexa Davison were falsified.

When McDonald's released its California nominations for its All-American High School Basketball Team Wednesday, there was one surprise name from the Santa Clarita Valley.

Ariel Hale, a senior power forward from Canyon, was one of 35 girls from across the state nominated.
