A 65-year-old truck driver has been arrested for felony hit and run after allegedly leaving the scene of a Saturday crash where a woman was struck and killed on northbound Highway 14, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The truck driver, Porterville resident Nicolas M. Hernandez, was allegedly driving a 2012 Freightliner truck northbound north of Agua Dulce Canyon Road on Saturday when his truck struck a woman, identified as 44-year-old Pomona resident Reyna Palacios.

Palacios was standing outside her vehicle, a 1999 Honda, which was disabled at the time of the crash. She was airlifted from the scene to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where she later died as a result of her injuries, according to CHP officials.

Hernandez allegedly left the scene of the incident and was later stopped by a California Highway Patrol officer traveling southbound on Highway 14 near Agua Dulce Canyon Road. He was arrested for felony hit and run.

Saturday’s crash closed down Highway 14 in the area for several hours, leaving motorists stalled in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees.

It was the second fatal collision on Highway 14 within a month and the third collision for which a driver was arrested.

Burbank resident Bradford Pate, 38, was charged last week with murder for allegedly causing a traffic collision while traveling the wrong way on northbound Highway 14 near Escondido Canyon Road. Two people died in that crash.

Rick Allen Walker, 54, of Canyon Country was arrested earlier last month on suspicion of driving under the influence in connection with a wrong-way crash that injured 13 people on Highway 14 near Escondido Canyon Road.
