Chosen musicians received their music earlier this month and came together for the first time for rehearsals at the end of February. During the actual Honor Band Concert, they will be under the direction of professional guest conductors. This year's guest conductors will be Dr. Gary Gilroy from California State University Fresno and Dan Bochard, a professional trombonist in the Los Angeles area.
The two directors have selected some very challenging music for the concert, which will stretch the musical abilities of the students and please audiences. Past directors have been amazed at the ability of students who come through Hart District programs, according to Randy Gilpin, concert organizer and band director at Rancho Pico Junior High School.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. March 7 with the junior high school band, followed by the high school ensemble. Tickets are $10, either in advance from band directors at Hart District schools or at the door.
