Parents of students in the Wm. S. Hart Union High School District have another opportunity to learn about the voluntary drug testing program which will be initiated in a pilot program in all Hart District schools this spring.

The second in a series of parent informational meetings has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the multipurpose room at La Mesa Junior High School.

The program will include a message from Hart District Superintendent Jaime Castellanos and the testimony from a parent who has dealt first hand with the issues of teen drug use. Dr. Darryl Adams will explain the district's Comprehensive Alcohol and Drug Reduction and Education (CADRE) program, which was recently approved by the district's Governing Board.

The program will include drug testing for students who names are drawn on a random basis from a list of those who agree to the program by signature of both the parent and student. All tests are to be done by an outside organization and results will be sent directly to the parent.

The program also includes drug awareness education for students, parents and staff, and counseling resources which can be offered upon parental request.

A question-and-answer session will be part of the informational meetings, along with a timeline for this spring's pilot program.

La Mesa Junior High is located at 26623 May Way in Canyon Country on the eastern side of the district.
