Santa Clarita City Council members voted Tuesday night to approve construction plans for a $9.1 million project to widen McBean Parkway where it crosses over the Santa Clara River in Valencia.

The project will widen the existing 102-foot-wide bridge by an additional 31 feet, adding a fourth lane in the southbound direction, according to council documents.

The pavement on McBean Parkway from Avenue Scott to Magic Mountain Parkway will be resurfaced, and a landscaped traffic median will also be added from Avenue Scott to Creekside Road.

Construction on the project is expected to begin in August and be complete early in 2015.
