LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Police Commission has found an officer used unreasonable force when she allegedly kicked a woman in the crotch who died in a police car after her arrest.

Alesia Thomas, 35, died July 22 after officers tracked her to her South Los Angeles home to arrest her on suspicion of child endangerment.

Thomas abandoned her 3-year-old and 12-year-old children at a police station about 2 a.m. Police said she dropped off the children because she was a drug addict who could not care for them.

The arrest was captured on camera. The commission found in its report, released Thursday, that the three other officers used appropriate force.

The department will be conducting an internal investigation into the other officers' actions.

The report named none of the officers.
