CORONADO, Calif. (AP) — A wanted man who held off police by standing in the ocean off San Diego County for seven hours has finally been arrested.

Coronado police say the man, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, was taken into custody shortly before 5:30 a.m. Monday. His name hasn't been released.

Police went to arrest the man near the Hotel Del Coronado shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday on a felony warrant alleging drug violations.

KFMB-TV says the man fled, running shirtless into the ocean and threatening to kill anyone who got near. He waded and swam near the surfline for hours while police waited him out.

Authorities say he finally was taken into custody and was treated for hypothermia.
