A Castaic man accused of spearing his pet dog and cat is out on bail and expected in court today.

Jared Andrew Foster, 23, is scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court on felony animal cruelty charges Monday.

On Friday afternoon, he posted bail and was released from custody.

Foster was arrested Wednesday night after Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to reports that a man had killed his pets in the 32700 block of on North Ridge Top Lane, Lt. John Rush said at the time.

His bail was set at $20,000 at the time of his arrest.

According to sheriff’s deputies, Foster allegedly killed his dog and cat with a homemade knife-and-broom-handle spear, then lit the dog’s body on fire.

The dog was described by neighbors as a white Chihuahua mixed breed.

Both animals were the family pets.
