Firefighters responded to a brush fire today on southbound Interstate 5 in Newhall Pass, a fire official said.

"They do have knockdown," said Kyle Sanford, Los Angeles County Fire Department supervising fire dispatcher. "They're mopping up within the fire line."

Interstate 5 lanes were blocked or closed at about 2:30 p.m. because of the two brush fires in Santa Clarita, California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada said.

On the southbound I-5, the No. 3 and No. 4 lanes were blocked, and the No. 4 lane on northbound I-5 south of Templin Highway was closed until further notice, Posada said.

The fire was reported at 11:56 a.m. near the Oak Tree Gun Club, Sanford said.

The blaze remains at nine acres as of 2:30 p.m.

No injuries have been reported, and no structures are threatened.

There was still no containment percentage at 2:30 p.m., Sanford said.

"They seem to have a handle on it," Sanford said just before 1 p.m.
