SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A commercial salvage company is preparing to tow a minivan out of San Francisco Bay that went into the water with its woman driver inside.

San Francisco police spokesman Gordon Shyy says divers using sonar found the sunken van with a body inside on Friday night, about three hours after it jumped a curb near San Francisco Marina Yacht Harbor and ran straight into the bay.

Shyy says police and firefighters halted the recovery operation overnight because of the dangerous conditions and because they did not have the right equipment, but resumed the job with help from the salvage company on Saturday morning.

Several sailors who had seen the van go into the bay jumped off their private boat to try to rescue the woman and ended up having to be rescued themselves.
