Toddler dies in Bakersfield house fire

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a toddler died after being trapped inside a burning house Bakersfield.

KBAK-TV says ( firefighters responding to the blaze Wednesday in the Oildale area were told someone was still inside.

Neighbors tried to rescue the young boy but flames were too intense.

Fire department spokesman Corey Wilford says when crews fought their way inside they found the child deceased. He was identified later by the coroner's office as 21-month-old Aiden McDonald.

Three other children managed to escape.

It took crews just over 30 minutes to fully extinguish the fire, which is now under investigation.

Investigators say flames were mainly contained to the first floor. Damage was estimated at $140,000.
