Our president, Barack Obama, recently said after being rebuffed by the Republicans on the stimulus package, "You know, I am an eternal optimist. That doesn't mean I'm a sap."
We constantly ask our elected officials to talk straight with us and here we have a president who does that and what happens? He is attacked by the talking heads on radio and TV.
Our state legislators finally came to an agreement on the state budget last week. Do I like it? No. Do I think it could have been done better? Maybe. I don't have all the data and it's always easy to second-guess.
We as Americans and Californians want the best, but don't want to pay for it.
Face it: We are a bunch of sloths who lumber along and expect our elected officials and all the cogs of government to take care of us.
But we don't take responsibility when these elected officials and government don't do what we want them to do or what is best for all, not just some narrow-minded ideology.
I was very active in politics and now find myself falling very distant from that. I found I have other needs and wants that I do have control over. I am still an eternal optimist, but no sap.
