James Brown, 42, was arrested after being pursued from Granada Hills to Newhall.
Around 7:45 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers were reportedly on patrol near Langdon Avenue and Devonshire Street when they saw two men in a 1997 Plymouth driving erratically.
A license plate check revealed the car was stolen, said Officer Sara Faden.
The officers initiated a pursuit that ended six minutes later in Newhall when Brown exited Interstate 5 at Lyons Avenue. Brown reportedly bolted from the car, leaving behind the passenger, Jason Hallum, 33, of Granada Hills, who was arrested and booked on driving without the owner's consent.
Brown was found 30 minutes later, hiding inside the bathroom of a nearby Carl's Jr. restaurant. He was arrested and charged with grand theft auto.
Both men are being held at Van Nuys Jail.
No weapons were found inside the car, but officers reportedly retrieved law enforcement equipment, security badges and a baseball cap bearing the logo of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Faden said officers are investigating whether Brown and Hallum are connected to any other crimes in the Granada Hills area.
