IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — Police are searching for a man suspected of stabbing a college student after a fight broke out at a party at University of California, Irvine.

University spokeswoman Cathy Lawhon says campus police responded to a call early Friday near student housing after the brawl erupted between two men, apparently over a girlfriend.

Lawhon says the student's friends pulled the suspect off him and noticed the victim's chest was bleeding. She says the suspect left the scene on foot but may be traveling in an Audi.

Lawhon could not say what weapon was used in the stabbing.

The victim, who was not identified, is in stable condition.

Anyone with information about the suspect is being asked to call UC Irvine police.
