A “very cute” 2-month-old tabby kitten left in a box inside a car in Valencia Thursday has found a new home, a county animal control officer said.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to calls around 10 a.m. from residents on Bayview Court near Bridgeport Elementary School who were concerned for the cat’s safety, said Lt. Mark Hershey.

“Somebody left a kitten in a box in a car with the windows rolled up,” Hershey said.

The responding deputy found the car with the kitten unlocked, Hershey said, adding, “He took the cat to the animal shelter in Castaic.”

Staff at the Castaic Animal Shelter weighed the orange tabby domestic short-hair at about three pounds, said Evelina Villa, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control.

“The good news is, since he’s considered abandoned and if we don’t locate the owner, we’ve found someone who wants him,” Villa told The Signal Thursday afternoon.

“He’s a very cute tabby,” she said.

Sheriff’s deputies are expected to contact the car’s owner in an attempt to learn more about the incident.

“We’re considering some sort of citation,” Hershey said.
