Santa Clarita Valley Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, will hold a town hall meeting Saturday along with fellow Assemblyman Steve Fox, D-Palmdale, to discuss the issue of chloride in the Santa Clara River.

The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Santa Clarita Activities Center, 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway, and focus on the recent environmental impact report on chloride, which outlined several possible ways to lower chloride levels to meet state and federal mandates.

Wilk, whose Assembly district contains most of the Santa Clarita Valley, has previously called for an extension in the public-review process for the chloride environmental impact report.

The town hall will include presentations from local water agencies and the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, among others, according to a news release from Wilk’s office.

“This is a complicated and potentially expensive issue that needs to be carefully evaluated,” Wilk said in a news release. “I’m committed to finding a solution that is backed by sound science and least costly to SCVSD (Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District) rate payers.”
