Mother’s Day is behind us but Father’s Day is only a week away! Don’t forget dad! It’s time to do something special for your dad this year, ditch the tie and think of something fun. Buy him a jersey from his favorite sports team, a "steak and potatoes" dinner or give him a break from "honey do" chores. Be creative!

Best party of the year

If you missed the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley benefit auction you missed the best party of the year! From Ed Masterson as emcee to Lee and the Real Deal rocking it out on stage this year’s auction had energy, life and a really fun vibe. I think the "Rock On!" theme had a lot to do with the success of the auction, as well as the dedicated staff, volunteers and generous donors and bidders. It really was the best party of the year! Kudos to all who made it happen. And if you missed it, well, there’s always next year! The "Rock On!" theme was a brilliant choice. People had fun and were able to "let their hair down." It’s too bad the band didn’t get on stage sooner, tho. Lee and Real Deal are a great party band!

Seen at the auction

The best part of this year’s theme was the opportunity to dress up as your favorite rock star. I just came as a groupie, but I loved the many creative costumes that people came up with. See the trio of photos below to see a few of the costume choices.

Chris and Jayne Fall were adorable — as were Kris and Tom Hough. Did you see Sonny and Cher? Also known as Scott and Vanessa Wilk. Ingrid and TimBen Boydstonwere the picture of rock royalty!I really loved how Richard Sandnes rocked that teal top and the rhinestone-studded sunglasses. Always a "class act" Richard and Marian Sandnes , IHOP, Saugus and Canyon Country, served as the title sponsors. Show your support for businesses that support the community, go have some pancakes!

Also seen at the auction

A few of the others spotted at the auction were: Laurene Weste and James McCarthy, Shelley and G. Marshall Hann, Gary and Myrna Condie, Tom and Anita Petersen, Wayne and Dianne Crawford, Anna Ott, Oscar Dominguez, Tony Newhall, Marsha and Dale McLean, Marlee Lauffer and Laine Hedwell, Bonnie Rabjohn, Sue Carpenter and Julie Benson and Bruce Krumrine.

‘Stop Bullying’ workshop

The Santa Clarita Domestic Violence Center will host a "Stop Bullying!" workshop for parents on Tuesday, June 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Canyon Country Community Center, located at 18792 Flying Tiger Drive, Canyon Country.

Topics will include: what is bullying; why do children bully other children; and what is cyber bullying and how parents can get involved.
