Giant brush fires are one result of global warming

The Powerhouse Fire that burned more than 30,000 acres is the latest of more than 680 California wildfires this year — about 200 more than average for this early in the season.

This is one of the consequences of climate change, and that connection needs to be made loudly and clearly at every opportunity — especially by the news media — to wake us up.

Because the effects of global warming are delayed, they don’t seem life-threatening now; but if we don’t "get it" soon and significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, we’ll slip past the tipping point, warming will be unstoppable, and not only our goose but the whole planet will be cooked.

Surely there are better ways to have a barbecue.
