Family faithfulness

June is often the time for many weddings. The Bible presents marriage as a covenant relationship between God and his creation and not a human contract to be broken or ignored by the bored.

This biblical institution, which historically binds mothers, fathers and their children together, is harmed when adults demand personal rights, rather than sacrifice for family stability.

Further, this very first institution of human society has been weakened by decades of "no-fault divorce," in which fathers are often absent and mothers are left alone to raise children.

This month, with Father’s Day ahead, let us be reminded of the importance of involved fathers in the lives of their children, and also of the personal growth fathers can derive from intentional relationships with their children.

Frank Pittman is credited with the quote: "Fathering is not something perfect men do, but something that perfects men."
