A Newhall man who allegedly attacked a woman in her garage in Canyon Country three months ago pleaded not guilty Thursday to four felony charges filed against him, a court official said.

Robert Pena, 24, appeared in San Fernando Superior Court and was arraigned on charges that include one count of false imprisonment by violence, one count of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and two counts of first degree burglary.

Pena entered a plea of not guilty to all counts, a court clerk said.

“He denied all allegations against him,” he said.

On Feb. 21 about 6:30 p.m., Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to an assault call from a woman in the 18000 block of Saratoga Way, inside the American Beauty Condominium complex, according to a news release.

“The suspect confronted the victim as she was entering the breeze way leading to the condominium unit she was going to,” Deputy Josh Dubin said in the release.

He then attacked the woman and forced her back into the garage, Dubin said.

The woman was forced to the ground but she fought back and was able to call out for help.
Pena was arrested the same day.

He is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-trial conference in July.
