LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police and other authorities are searching the La Brea Tar Pits for evidence in a homicide investigation and aren't revealing what they may have found.

Officer Rosario Herrera says Thursday morning's search involved a dive team searching the murky depths of the black lagoon in the heart of the city's Miracle Mile area.

The La Brea Tar Pits are located on Wilshire Boulevard, on the same campus as the Page Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Hundreds of thousands of animal carcasses have been dredged from the pits through excavations over the last century, helping scientists piece together the past inhabitants of the Los Angeles Basin.
