School’s out and traffic apparently doesn’t matter

Making a right-hand turn off Decoro onto Arroyo Seco Street at Arroyo Seco Junior High School on Friday May 31, 2013, was a most harrowing experience.

The last day of school had just let out, with hundreds of kids swarming out to the sidewalk to the corner where the traffic lights are.

The kids were crossing the streets in a "helter skelter" fashion, not paying attention to the traffic lights or the cars that were surrounding them.

To say the least, it was nerve racking thinking that one of the kids was going to be hit by a car.

If that wasn’t enough stress, buses were lined up on the right side on Arroyo Seco Street in front of the school in tandem with kids jutting out between the buses into the line of traffic without looking to see if any cars were approaching.

The bicycle riders and skateboard aficionados were the worst culprits, displaying their showoff gyrations with complete disregard of the traffic.

I’m hoping these kids play it safer during their summer vacation so they can return to school in one piece.
