"I was really proud to get it," Gutzeit, Newhall County Water District board director, said Saturday.
Gutzeit is one of the five candidates running for one of the two open seats in the April 8 municipal election.
Gutzeit said she has worked with firefighters when dealing with issues like hazardous materials.
She notes that firefighters are responsible for various duties, ranging from handling anti-terrorism efforts to being first responders.
The City Council candidate believes her ability to understand the concerns of firefighters was a reason behind the endorsement, which was made public Thursday.
"They wanted people in local government that understood the needs of their jobs," she said. "And would be supportive of the work that they do."
Earlier this month she garnered an endorsement from the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters.
