Painted Turtle Camp cancels summer season due to Powerhouse Fire

The Painted Turtle Camp in Lake Hughes has canceled its summer activities this year due to damage caused by the Powerhouse Fire, according to a post on the camp’s website.

While the camp’s major buildings on Elizabeth Lake Road remained intact they suffered extensive smoke damage and “every piece of vegetation at the camp” was destroyed as the 32,000-acre wildfire moved through, according to the online post.

For the next few months, cleanup efforts will be ongoing for the camp’s landscaping and buildings with the goal of ensuring the safety of the site for campers.

“Please know that we are committed to returning with more hope, more fun, and more laughter than ever before,” the post read.

The camp’s summer session was supposed to begin Jun3 14.
