Karla Brada was strangled in her Saugus home in 2011.

A Saugus man accused of strangling his girlfriend in 2011 pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a murder charge, a court official said.

Eric Allen Earle, 41, entered his not-guilty plea at an arraignment in San Fernando Superior Court on Wednesday, a court clerk said.

A Superior Court judge ruled on May 23 there was sufficient evidence for Earle to be tried for murder in the death of his girlfriend, Karla Brada.

Brada, 31, died of asphyxiation in her Saugus home between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Sept. 1, 2011, according to Dr. Pedro Ortiz, deputy medical examiner with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

She had also suffered several scrapes and bruises before she died, he said last month at Earle’s preliminary hearing.
Earle remains in custody at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles with bail set at $1 million.
