The race to fill the vacant seat on the William S. Hart Union High School District board got a little less crowded Tuesday when two candidates withdrew their names from consideration, according to a district spokeswoman.

Kenneth Dean and Randal Winter have both withdrawn their names from consideration, district spokeswoman Gail Pinsker said Tuesday. Their departures leave a field of 12 candidates that will be interviewed by sitting board members during a special meeting Wednesday afternoon.

The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday and the interview process is expected to last close to five hours, according to a timeline provided by the Hart district.

The remaining candidates, in order of interview, are Steven Herskovitz, Bruce Fox, John Kunak, Tony Watson, Kane Crawford, Dean Morris, Michael Cruz, Brian Springer, Betti Sternberg, Chris Fall, Richard Shaw and Barbara Myler.

The 12 candidates are vying to fill the vacancy created by Paul Strickland, who resigned his board seat in May to take a consulting job in Florida.
