Scott Drootin, who announced his resignation as head baseball coach at Golden Valley High on May 20, has been hired by Cleveland High in Reseda for the same position.

Cleveland lost to San Fernado High 2-1 on Saturday at Dodger Stadium in the CIF L.A. City Section Division I championship game in Greg Venger's final game.

Venger resigned and took the women's head soccer coach position at Los Angeles Valley College.

Drootin lives in the San Fernando Valley and commuted to Golden Valley when he was the Grizzlies' head coach.

"I'm a valley guy," he said. "This is the first time in my coaching career that I'm not rebuilding. It's a build-on."

Drootin coached Golden Valley the last five seasons and went 41-84-1 overall and 17-58-1 in Foothill League play.

However, he led the Golden Valley program to respectability.

Prior to Golden Valley, Drootin coached at Calabasas, Chaminade and Newbury Park.
