Canyon of Anaheim caught fire from downtown, and Hart couldn’t keep pace in a 70-47 loss in the quarterfinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division IIIAA playoffs Tuesday at Canyon High School.

“They just shot the blazes, and we couldn’t recover,” said Hart head coach Tom Kelly. “They hit a ton of 3s. They spread the floor, and then they drive and pitch.”

The Comanches (23-6) outscored Hart 19-5 in the second quarter to take a 32-12 halftime lead, and Canyon pushed the lead to 25 at the end of three quarters.

“We were never really in the game,” Kelly said. “They were just better tonight, flat-out all the way around.”

Brad Wyche scored 12 points to lead the Indians (21-9), and Ben Kimble and TJ Rhett each added six.

Canyon point guard Bryan Barker led his team with 11.

Hart loses 10 seniors off a team that finished as runner-up in the Foothill League, but Kelly is confident in what he has coming back.

“I think we had a nice year,” Kelly said. “Our league was so tough. To win 21 games and eight league games, that speaks volumes about our kids.

“We’ll have a young team next year, but I think we’ll be OK. I like our kids coming up.”
