Santa Clarita Valley Scene: Hot enough for you?

I am hoping that all the "heat freaks" living in the Santa Clarita Valley have gotten their fill from our recent heat wave to hold them for a while. I am simply not ready for it to be truly "summer in the SCV’ just yet! Where’s my June gloom?

June in the SCV

The kids are out of school but that doesn’t mean that the nonprofit scene in the SCV has slowed. There are several fun events in the next few weeks including "Touch-a-Truck" and The Miss SCV Pageant on June and The Old Town Newhall Association’s fourth annual Classic Car Show on June 23.

Magicians Will ‘Teach a Trick’

Guests at the SCV Senior Center’s "Touch-A-Truck" event will be able to watch professional magicians perform magic tricks and even learn a simple trick or two, thanks to a partnership between the SCV Senior Center and the International Brotherhood of Magicians (I.B.M.), Ring 280. "Touch-A-Truck" (with its "Teach A Trick" component) is scheduled 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Central Park in Bouquet Canyon Proceeds from Touch-A-Truck will support such SCV Senior Center services as home delivered meals, respite day care and supportive services. For for information visit www.SCVTouchATruck.org.

Don’t forget The Signal

Don’t forget to take The Signal "On the Road" with you during your summer vacations. The Signal want to know where you’re going on summer break. See page C4 at the page of this section for more details on how to submit your vacation photos featuring The Signal newspaper.

‘Gentlemen for a Cause’

My new favorite event, "Gentlemen for a Cause" will be held Saturday, June 8 at the Westridge Clubhouse in Valencia.

Soroptomist International of Santa Clarita Valley will host the Second Annual Gentlemen for A Cause Fundraiser to benefit Bridge to Home.

The club has a goal with this fundraiser to be able to help families with children get back on their feet.

At the event you will have the opportunity to bid on professional services offered by the SCV’s most talented gentlemen.

Last year’s event featured dentists, plumbers, accountants, personal trainers and the opportunity to bid on a special date with eligible bachelors.

Be prepared to view and bid on the SCV’s most fun loving and romantic gentlemen. Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the door.

For information or if you have a service you would like to offer or a fun date you would like to plan contact Suzanne Stone at 661-422-5383 or Lorraine Furden at 661-877-6100 or visit www.siscv.com.

‘Tis the season...

Vietnam Memorial Wall

The American Veterans Traveling Tribute Vietnam Memorial Wall is the largest traveling replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. It will be brought to the SCV for four days, Sept. 26-29. The effort, spearheaded by Chuck Morris of Friendly Valley, needs volunteers to assist with the effort. The wall is an 80 percent replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall found in Washington D.C. It is 360-foot long and 8-foot high. It is a tribute to the 58,238 men and women who died in service during the Vietnam War. The wall will be erected in the Valencia Town Center parking lot, near the intersection of Town Center Drive and Citrus Street, for four days. Those who would like to help with the effort are encouraged to attend a monthly meeting at Santa Clarita’s City Hall from 3-3:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month.
