A Palmdale man was killed and two other people were injured Friday in a head-on vehicle collision on Sierra Highway in Acton, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Dead was Eloy Hernandez, who was driving northbound on Sierra Highway near Shannondale Road around 6:50 a.m.. said Officer Jennifer Cassidy.

“For reasons unknown, he allowed his car to drift over the double yellow line,” Cassidy said.
Hernandez’s vehicle collided head-on with a Toyota Tundra pickup truck driven in the southbound lanes, Cassidy said.

Hernandez was driving at approximately 50 mph when the collision occurred, Cassidy said.

The collision caused the Tundra to spin out, striking a third vehicle, The combination of collisions overturned the truck.

Debris from the crash struck and damaged a fourth vehicle, Cassidy said.

Hernandez was taken from the scene by helicopter to Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, where he later died of his injuries, Cassidy said.

The driver of the Tundra and another man were transported from the scene by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries, Cassidy said.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash, Cassidy said, but the incident remains under investigation.
