A Los Angeles Police Department officer accused of molesting two young girls in Castaic was denied a reduction in bail Thursday, a spokeswoman for county prosecutors said.

LAPD Officer Miguel Angel Schiappapietra Jr., 28, of Castaic appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday for a bail review hearing, said Jane Robison of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

The six-year LAPD veteran was denied a motion made by his lawyer to have his bail reduced, she said. Schiappapietra, whose bail was set at $200,000, had posted bail four days after his arrest and is not in custody.

Schiappapietra was arrested May 18 after two girls, both under the age of 10, told detectives he had sexually molested them, according to prosecutors.

He is scheduled to appear back in court in July for a preliminary hearing. A preliminary hearing is held to determine if there is sufficient evidence to take a case to trial.
