Santa Clarita City Council approves increases in cost of city trash services

With a unanimous vote, members of the Santa Clarita City Council voted Tuesday to approve rate increases for trash-collection services within the city.

This will result in an increase of 83 cents per month for a single-family home, bringing the monthly rate to $20.19.

This is still slightly less than the monthly rate paid by those living in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. The monthly rate for a single-family home in those areas is $22.20.

City Manager Ken Striplin said the increases are written into the contracts of the city’s two trash-collection service providers, USA Waste of California, Inc., and Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc., and are a result of specific methodology outlined in those contracts.

The new rates go into effect July 1.
