Thursday marked the second time in as many weeks that a brush fire broke out and temporarily burned in the direction of homes in Castaic.

But unlike last week’s Lake Fire, which charred 712 acres near Castaic Lake and forced home evacuations and a school lockdown, Thursday’s fire was quickly contained by fire crews.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Keith Mora said the fire, which was reported near the intersection of Quincy Street and Stageline Road in Castaic, was 100 percent contained at 2:01 p.m., less than an hour after it was first reported.

Mora said no injuries or property damage were reported as a result of the fire.

The fire was first reported at 1:06 p.m., according to officials with the fire department.

Shortly after it was first reported, the fire began burning in the direction of some homes in the area, according to officials. The fire was contained before officials had to order mandatory evacuations, officials said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
