Santa Clarita Mayor Pro-tem Frank Ferry was sworn in as the city's "Mayor Dude" Dec. 9.

Today's the fourth Tuesday of the month, which can only mean it's time to chat online with Santa Clarita "Mayor Dude" Frank Ferry.

The session begins at 4:30 p.m., and this month's topic addresses the question "What do you like best about living in Santa Clarita?"

"Mayor Dude" is a new Web site launched by the city of Santa Clarita, aimed at trying a fresh approach for involving local youth in their city and community.

By using this targeted outreach tool, and with the direct effort of the mayor, the city aims to bring local youth into the decision-making process, especially regarding issues of interest to local young people.

The monthly Mayor Dude chats offer visitors an opportunity to ask the mayor questions, answer challenges and offer suggestions.

The city will screen all comments and questions to assure they are appropriate for the Web site and for youthful viewing.

Among the other activities planned for the site during 2009 include "the Mayor Dude challenge," "Chat with Mayor Dude" and "Stay Connected with Mayor Dude."

"Mayor Dude" also welcomes comments and ideas from local young people, as well as photos of youth involved in activities in the community, that may be posted on the site.

"Mayor Dude" Ferry invites local youth involved in sports, volunteerism, music, etc. to send comments, ideas and photos with caption information directly to mayordude@santa-clarita.com.
