Investigators probing a homicide in Acton have released the identities of the man who was shot and killed and the name of his alleged killer.

The victim is Christopher Lawrence Demyen, 39, of Acton, said Lt. Fred Corral of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

Scott Russell Shipley, 56, of Acton, was arrested at 3 p.m., an hour after the shooting, by deputies of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

He was booked into custody at the Palmdale station at 7 p.m., charged on suspicion of having committed a felony and held on $1 million bail.

Shipley is scheduled to appear today in Antelope Valley Municipal Court.

Demyen was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon after he was shot in the torso, Sgt. Rich Pena of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told The Signal.

About 2 p.m. Wednesday, two men got into a verbal argument which turned into a physical altercation and ultimately a fatal shooting, said Pena.

“The verbal altercation became physical in front of the location,” he said, identifying that location as the 1500 block of Eagle Butte Road near Wild Hare Road in Acton.

“At some point the suspect produced a handgun and shot the victim in the upper torso,” he said.

Demyen, who lived on Country Way, ran a pumpkin patch in Acton.

Detectives with the department’s Homicide Bureau and investigators with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office were still on the scene investigating the homicide Wednesday night.
