'Diversity' awards celebrated tonight at Activities Center

Honors essay and poster contest winners

WHO: Santa Clarita Mayor Frank Ferry, Councilmember Laurie Ender, City Manager Ken Pulskamp, members of the Human Relations Forum, school administrators, teachers, Season of Diversity essay and poster contest participants, parents.

WHAT: On February 23, the City will bring its A Season of Diversity program to a close with an Essay and Poster Contest Award Ceremony at the City's Activities Center.

The Essay and Poster Contest, which prompted youth to write or draw something illustrating "How is your life better by having friends of different cultures," received more than 650 submissions.

In addition to the Awards Ceremony, guests will be treated to a reception and gallery viewing of contestants' artwork submissions, where the Placerita Junior High School Orchestra will provide background music.

WHEN: Monday, February 23 at 6 p.m.

WHERE: The City's Activities Center, located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.

WHY: The Awards Ceremony commends our local youth for participating in the Essay and Poster Contest and exploring the importance of cultural understanding. Season of Diversity program's mission is to encourage, assist, and empower Santa Clarita adolescents to eliminate all forms of discrimination and to promote understanding of human differences.
