The Xi Nu Zeta sorority celebrated Mother’s Day with its annual “Mothers and Others” luncheon held the day before Mother’s Day at Robinson Ranch Country Club.

The group presented a check for $5,000 to Elaine Foderaro, president of the Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation, to fund Xi Nu Zeta annual scholarships that are presented to students at each of the six SCV comprehensive high schools.

“Thank you for this generous, generous donation,” said Foderaro. “This donation will be used for the class of 2014.

We really appreciate that Xi Nu Zeta donates a year in advance.”

Xi Nu Zeta has made a donation to the SCV Scholarship Foundation for nearly 50 years.

The Mothers and Others event, which attracted nearly 70 attendees, including mothers, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, featured entertainment by Aleshea Harris of California Institute of the Arts.

Harris, an actress, playwright, poet and singer-songwriter entertained the audience with several selections of prose and poetry celebrating mothers.

Emily Dean, a student studying character animation at CalArts, moved from table to table drawing portraits of the attendees.

Evie Leslie, president of Xi Nu Zeta, was named “Girl of the Year” by her fellow sorority sisters.
“I don’t know what to say, I’m overwhelmed,” said Leslie.
