More than 200 people turned out Saturday afternoon to celebrate the life of Brittany Lynn Schlumpberger who, according to her father, has “heaven’s biggest smile.”

Schlumpberger, who would have turned 30 years old this week, died May 1 shortly before 11:30 p.m. in a single-vehicle crash on Sand Canyon Road south of Alamo Canyon Road, a stone’s throw from their home.

On Saturday, scores of her friends and relatives gathered on the Schlumpberger’s sprawling front lawn of their Josel Drive home, paying her respect and celebrating her life.

Her father, Kevin, spent most the of the afternoon being hugged by those paying tribute to his daughter. They waited in line on the driveway for their chance to embrace the man whose daughter is now gone.

“She’s now heaven’s biggest smile,” he said, holding up his arm to show a pink rubber wristband etched with the same words: Brittany Lynn Schlumpberger, Heaven’s biggest smile.

Kevin and his wife Michelle, who were initially going to have a private service Saturday, ended up inviting the public to join them in paying tribute to their daughter when they learned how many people their charismatic daughter affected.

“I spent summers with her,” said Tim Hackman, whose 4-year-old twins, Alexa and Ayden, clambered around Brittany’s dad for a hug.

“Gosh, she just made you feel welcome,” Hackman said. “She had such a positive attitude.

“She was a light,” he said.

The Schlumpbergers set up house-sized tents, laid out tabletops with fruit bowls and baked goods all against a backdrop of karaoke music which, they said, is how Brittany would have wanted it.
