The driver's vehicle hit an electrical pole directly across from the Saugus Speedway and severed it at about 3:45 p.m, Lewis said.
The pole leaned over traffic, which Lewis said led law enforcement to close the road because of the danger it posed to cars that drove under it.
Sheriff's deputies closed the road in both directions between Bouquet Canyon Road and Commuter Way until about 4:55 p.m after Southern California Edison workers arrived at the scene and determined the pole was not a hazard, Lewis said.
The lanes reopened after that time, except for the third westbound lane near the bike path, which remained closed as Southern California Edison worked to repair the pole.
Lewis said the third lane would reopen within the next couple of hours of the other lanes' reopening.
The driver was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
