What planet is Gary Horton from?

Regarding Gary Horton's "Who's the real sap?" column (The Signal, Feb. 17): What planet is Horton from?

Once we get past the name-calling and put-downs of Republicans in general and our local Congressman McKeon in particular, Horton gives us a bit of useful information on the "stimulus" bill.

We do find a smattering of near-term stimulus as Horton points out. However, as a conservative I think some facts need to be brought out.
First, this was not Obama's bill. The bill was crafted by two liberal politicians: Nancy Pelosi and David Obey.

These liberals looked on our awful recession as an opportunity to spend money on every pent-up wish list liberals had in the last 40 years.

Obama's Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, was quite accurate when he said: "Never let a serious crisis go to waste."

History will show this "stimulus" to be a can of worms. The bill is way too large. I've seen conflicting counts but the bill has somewhere between 1,050 and 1,434 pages.

Pelosi rammed it through the House with no Republican inputs. How's that for bi-partisanship?

She then broke her promise (in a hurry to start her foreign junket to Europe?) to put the bill online for 48 hours before taking action. It only got to the Web Friday morning and was voted on that afternoon.

I have two final observations. Squandering billions on a high-speed train link to Las Vegas is not a near-term stimulus. Individual bills should have dealt with pieces like that.

Unfortunately, politicians, not statesmen, run our Congress.
