A vehicle burglary was reported in the 22500 block of 14th Street in Newhall. This incident occurred between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1st, 2013. A window on the vehicle was smashed and a backpack was stolen (ref -05965).

Deputies made numerous arrests during the past week in Newhall.

On Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at approximately 1:20 p.m., deputies responded to the 24600 block of Walnut Street in Newhall regarding a burglary in progress. The caller stated he was detaining a burglary suspect inside his home at gunpoint. When deputies arrived it appeared the caller was under the influence of a controlled substance. The caller appeared very excited, unable to be still, and was paranoid. The caller insisted there was a person inside his couch. Deputies determined the caller (now identified as the suspect) discharged a firearm inside his residence. The location was a residential neighborhood with a school across the street and other homes surrounding it. It appeared the suspect was hallucinating. The suspect, Ryan Bayer, a 39 year-old male from Newhall was arrested for discharging a firearm in a gross negligent manner, possession of a controlled substance, and for being under the influence of a controlled substance. A pump shotgun and semi-automatic pistol were recovered inside the home by deputies (ref -06186).
