A homeless man stabbed another homeless man during an argument at an encampment in the Santa Clara River bed early today, a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station official said.

Sheriff’s deputies on patrol found the victim, who was stabbed in the back and cut on the head, around 4 a.m. in the vicinity of Oak Avenue and Santa Clara Street in Canyon Country, Lt. Mark Hershey said.

After tending to the man, whose name was not released, they went into the river bed and arrested Dale Lovera, 52, around 5:10 a.m., Hershey said.

Lovera was booked for investigation of attempted murder.

The stabber and his victim apparently got into a fight that turned violent, the lieutenant said.
