Deputies investigate bottle bombs at COC

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies are investigating two bottle bombs set off at the College of the Canyons Valencia campus, sheriff's officials said Friday.

One of the devices went off at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday near the Performing Arts Center by the college's main entrance. Minutes later, a second device exploded in the college parking lot near the library.

No one was injured.

A witness reported seeing a device thrown from a late-model maroon sedan with two young men before the vehicle fled the campus.

Although the bottle bomb incident was still under investigation Friday, Detective Rick Velazquez called the incident isolated and most likely was a college prank.

College officials are asking the community to report suspicious activities.

"We want everyone to know that we're extra vigilant," said college spokesman John McElwain. "We're not taking it lightly at all. A prank that can cause harm is not a prank."
