It is hard to believe that in a few short weeks my daughter will be graduating from West Ranch High School. It seems like yesterday she was learning to walk and talk. Now, she is about to embark on a new life. She will be attending my alma mater, California State University Long Beach. As she prepares to leave, I can’t help thinking how challenging the first few months of college will be as she becomes acclimated to campus life and the city of Long Beach. Here at Signal Multimedia we are working to make that transition a little smoother for our local students at College of the Canyons, California Institute of the Arts, and Master’s College. We are currently putting together a fact book for newcomers and neighbors and an off campus guide geared toward college students. These magazines will have a lot of information for both new and established residents. The guides will include information such as shopping, entertainment, restaurants, churches, real estate, schools, utilities, and local events. It is sure to become a favorite reference tool. If you would like to make sure your business is included in these fantastic guides, give me a call at the Signal Multimedia (661) 287-5559.

When is the last time you went to The Big Oaks Restaurant on Bouquet Canyon; if it has been awhile then you’re in for a surprise. New owner, Hiten Golakiea, has been making some great changes and isn’t done yet. One great change is the addition of two large flat-screen televisions in the bar and one out on the patio. If you don’t want to watch television you can enjoy listening to guitarist Michael Owens on Saturday and Sunday from 2:00pm to 5:00pm; while you enjoy the spacious, animal friendly outdoor patio. Other changes include: upgraded table tops in the dining room, a larger beverage selection and some wonderful and tasty new appetizers and menu options. Hiten plans on continuing his upgrades and adding additional entertainment, so be sure to stop by often to see what’s new. In fact, hookah smoking is coming next week. The Big Oaks will also be having a Mother’s Day Brunch, give them a call at: (661) 296-5656 for additional details.

Let’s face it, when it comes to apartment living in the SCV there are many choices, too many, some might say – making the research on the tedious side. I have agreed to help a friend, who will be relocating to the SCV, find the perfect apartment. In my pursuit, I stumbled across a gem. Parc Chateaux in Stevenson Ranch boasts a beautiful property and some great folks in management. I saw a lot of families by the pool and spoke to a couple of college students, who are all happily living at Parc Chateaux. If you visit, let them know Alesia said hello.
