Three people were injured and taken to the hospital Sunday when two vehicles collided on Highway 126, near Val Verde, fire officials said.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a call from the California Highway Patrol for a two-vehicle traffic collision with people possibly trapped, said Inspector Al Jackson.

The crash happened on Highway 126 about 200 feet east of Chiquito Canyon Road and involved a black Honda Civic and a Toyota Tundra SUV, which ended up flipped over onto its side, according to the CHP.

It appeared there were two occupants in the Honda which sustained major front end damage according to the CHP, and five occupants in the Tundra, said freelance photographer and witness Rick McClure who arrived at the crash site a few minutes after it happened.

Paramedics dispatched to the crash at 3:27 called for two ambulances.

One ambulance took the couple to the hospital, and a second ambulance took at least one occupant of the Tundra to the hospital, McClure said.
