A Canyon Country man suspected of shooting at sheriff’s deputies Wednesday night, leading to an hours-long manhunt, remained at large Friday, according to a Sheriff’s Department official.

Lt. John Rush with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said as of 5:45 p.m. the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Corey Kieffer, had yet to be located or detained.

Rush said detectives are continuing to do follow-up work in the area where Kieffer was last seen.

“We are continuing to actively look for him in the area,” Rush said.

Kieffer is described as approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and 140 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes, according to sheriff’s officials.

He is a transient who is known to frequent the wash area near the intersection of Camp Plenty and Soledad Canyon roads, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Station. He is also a known user of narcotics, according to that release.
