The Foothill League boys tennis prelims is usually an event of little surprise.

It’s more of a showcase for the league’s top-tiered players.

And Wednesday’s prelims at The Paseo Club in Valencia held true to form.

The top four seeded singles players and the top four seeded doubles teams all advanced to today’s Foothill League Finals at The Paseo Club in Valencia. No Wednesday match went beyond two sets.

The top two singles players and top two doubles teams from today’s finals will advance to play in the CIF-Southern Section individual postseason.

Wednesday showed there are favorites.

No. 1 seeded singles player, Valencia’s Chad LeDuff, had the easiest day of all singles players.

He breezed through his first match 6-0, 6-0, then defeated Saugus’ Josh Hill 6-0, 6-1.

He will face Hart’s Elliot Miller in the first semifinal match today.

The fourth-seeded Indian had to work to pull out a 6-0, 7-5 first-rounder over Golden Valley’s Brian Park, then worked again for a 6-3, 6-3 quarterfinal win.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 seeded Joey Fernicola won his first-round match 6-1, 6-1 and then came back to win his quarterfinal 6-2, 6-2 over Hart’s Brandon Dam.

Golden Valley’s steady Brandon Yu had the most interesting day, as he breezed 6-0, 6-0 in the first round before a quarterfinal match with Saugus’ Tristin Thierry.

Yu was able to overcome Thierry’s power with a first-set 6-3 victory, then was up 4-3 on the Saugus junior. Thierry then had to retire due to a triceps injury.

The most dominant doubles teams were actually the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds, which should set up for the most competitive semifinal today.

No. 2 seeded Valencia doubles team David Myers and Sam Rebele won 6-2, 6-0 in the first round, then 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals over Golden Valley’s Vance Truong and Koa Chu.

Their Viking teammates and No. 3 seeded Joseph Hwang and Kevin Saginian won 6-1, 6-2 then 6-2, 6-2.

The No. 1 seeded Valencia team of Chris Pope and Cameron Braun won easily 6-0, 6-0 in the first round, then got their money’s worth from Golden Valley’s Anthony Oquindo and Justin Dulay.

They will face Hart’s No. 1 team and the No. 4 seeded Tommy LaBat and  Luke Distad today in the semis.

LaBat and Distad won their first round match 6-4, 7-5 against West Ranch’s Alex Sajnani and Logan Boute in Wednesday’s most competitive matchup.

They won their second rounder 6-2, 6-4 over Saugus’ Grant Vaziri and Anthony Miller.
