All the focus was on the track at Tuesday’s Foothill League track and field prelims at Valencia High School.

Qualifying heats were held for seven varsity events in both boys and girls on Tuesday, all of which were running events.

Finals for the field events will be held on Friday at Valencia, along with the rest of the league finals.

In the meantime, the stage has been set for some tight competition in multiple events based on Tuesday’s results.

Golden Valley freshman Azaria Hill had the best time in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, finishing in 12.02 seconds and 25.40 seconds, respectively. She’ll be challenged by Canyon’s Erica Anunwah, who also won her heats in the 100 (12.42) and 200 (25.78).

Fellow Golden Valley sprinter Imani Dixon will also have a chance to win two events on Friday as she finished with heat-winning times of 25.48 in the 200 and 57.41 in the 400. Canyon's Kendall Bietsch was also a heat winner in the 400 in 58.51.

In the boys sprints, it appears to be a close race in the 100 between top qualifier and Canyon senior Drew Wolitarsky (11.07), teammate Chris Wentt (11.19), Valencia’s George Dowling (11.20) and West Ranch’s Zahr Lyttle (11.33).

Dowling was also a top qualifier in the 200 along with Valencia’s Michael Kojin (22.15). Golden Valley’s James Chevious won his 400 heat in 50.27, which makes him the favorite to win on Friday. West Ranch’s Chu Oguejiofor will contend in both the 200 and 400 finals with his heat-winning times of 22.47 and 50.95, respectively.

The distance races will also put some of the league’s top runners up against each other in the finals.

Golden Valley’s Chelsey Totten (5:04.50) and Saugus’ Sam Ortega (5:05.34) won their heats in the 1,600 by comfortable distances.

Totten also won her 800 heat in 2:19.24 to join fellow heat-winners Marisa Magsarili (2:15.77) and Olivia Pear (2:16.75) in the event.

The boys 1,600 appears to be more competitive with two Saugus runners, Alex Pearson (4:26.70) and Rodrigo Ornelas (4:24.31), posting the top qualifying marks. Golden Valley’s Nolan Del Valle, West Ranch’s Jeffrey Black and Canyon’s Zach Wims all followed closely with their qualifying times.

In the 800, West Ranch’s Pierce Miller (1:57.78) and Hart’s Mac Kaufman (1:57.88) were the top qualifiers.

Hart’s Conner West was the league’s best qualifier in both the 110 hurdles (15.05) and the 300 hurdles (40.71).

On the girls side, Saugus’ Monica Allen put up the best time in the 300 hurdles (48.11) and Golden Valley’s Caitlyn Zindroski had the top mark in the 100 hurdles (16.80).
