SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) — Jury selection has begun in the capital trial of Joseph Naso, who is charged with murdering four women decades ago in Northern California and dumping their bodies in rural areas.

The Marin Independent Journal reports that the 89-year-old Naso and prosecutors began reviewing juror questionnaires on Monday.

The retired commercial photographer who lived in Reno, Nev., before his arrest has pleaded not guilty to murdering the four prostitutes, all of whom had matching first and last initials.

Naso is charged with murdering Roxene Roggasch in 1977, Carmen Colon in 1978, Pamela Parsons in 1993 and Tracy Tafoya in 1994.

Authorities are still investigating Naso for any links to additional homicides.

Naso is representing himself, but has hired attorneys to provide advice.

Opening statements are scheduled to begin in June.
